Walking through Harlem,I think I must have lived in Harlem in a Past life. It gives me a warm indescribable feeling being here.
The dresses I wear come from My Touch of Africa a new upcoming brand that combines African fabric and Western clothing style keeping the uniqueness of the African continent alive.
My Touch of Africa is owned by Dédé Yebovi, Canadian born of African origin. Dédé lived in Togo and Gabon during the first years of her life. After a successful career as a manager in Canadian and French hospitals, she decided to pursue her dream of owning her own unique clothing line.
I have so much respect for a woman who does that. It proofs to me again that anything can be possible if you just work hard and believe in yourself.
Another beautiful aspect about this brand is that her clothes are manufactured in Africa. Following the Fair Trade concept, all fabrics come directly from local African markets and other local shops. The artisans are paid fairly in order to help their businesses thrive and helps them support their extended families, giving back to the Motherland, something I truly respect.
