Sleeping in DownTown Mexico

I love staying in beautiful hotels, it gives me that fairy-tale-princess feeling. A beautiful tidy room and clean white sheets is already heaven to me. Imagine the joy of checking into Hotel Downtown Mexico, a former 17th century baroque palace.IMG_0063

My room still had components from the original building, such as an exposed concrete wall and a high ceiling. The combination of light wooden detailing and the dark floor kept the space feeling chic.

Yes, my home for the coming days.

As a cherry on top there is a roof top terrace (with swimming pool), one that has a perfect view over the historic buildings below.IMG_0138

Although the rooms are very spacious, the hotel occupies only a portion of the massive palace. There are two restaurants on the ground floor, both in charming open courtyards and you’ll find a great selection of small shops on the mezzanine.IMG_0692

Right after check in we decided on dining in one of their two restaurants. I usually prefer heading directly into town but this restaurant looked so inviting and charming even though it was quite busy. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly. Side note: it doesn’t hurt to freshen up on your Spanish as menus are in Spanish only and hardly anybody speaks English. Don’t let that discourage you because you can get a long way with wifi and translate apps.

Thank you Downtown for hosting us and making our first introduction with Mexican hospitality more than memorable.breakfast2
